Family Services of Rochester Announces Name Change, Now:
Family Service Communities – Where People Come to Live
|
On behalf of the Board of Directors, President Joe Cardillo, announced today that Family Service of Rochester is changing their name to Family Service Communities. While in the past Family Services of Rochester has offered a wide-range of services, the agency has changed its focus of service to concentrate on providing enriched rental housing for moderate- and low-income seniors and older adults. Enriched housing, sometimes called assisted living, is now the agency’s sole function.
New Name Reflects A Tradition of Service
For more than 30 years, Family Service Communities has been a provider of enriched housing for seniors. They are currently licensed by the New York State Department of Health to offer enriched housing and assisted living in the City of Rochester at Danforth Towers, Jonathan Child Apartments and Hudson-Ridge Apartments, and at the newly constructed Northfield in the town of Perinton.
“Over the past 30 years, many things about us have not changed -- including our passion for service,” said Cardillo. “But more recently we have made some significant changes including redefining our mission and services to focus solely on housing, and constructing and opening our first suburban housing development. We are confident that these changes are taking us in the right direction, and were pleased to learn that our peers agree.”
Cardillo continued, “As evidence of our commitment to this new direction, we are pleased to announce our name change to Family Service Communities. We believe our new name reflects both our identity and our commitment to the people we serve. The new name maintains ‘Family Service’, a well-known and well-respected brand but adds the word ‘communities’ because that more closely describes how our residents feel about our facilities.”
Survey Finds High Level of Satisfaction
As part of the re-branding process, Family Service Communities recently worked with marketing agency Christopher Communications to conduct a survey to ask the people who are most important to the mission — including providers of many levels of eldercare services, social workers, hospital discharge planners and other housing providers — to assess the agency’s effectiveness and to test market recognition 55% of those surveyed responded, and indicated a very high level of satisfaction ~
- 100% were familiar with Family Services of Rochester.
- 92% rated our services either excellent or good.
- 96% said that we are equally qualified provide enriched housing in both the city and the suburbs.
- 87% indicated that there is a need for more moderate- and low-income enriched housing in the suburbs, such as is provided at The Northfield in Perinton.
“These finding are a strong testament to the caring staff of Family Service Communities,” said Cardillo. “I, and my board colleagues, are exceedingly proud of the work that these fine people do with elders and their families day in and day out. “Because of them, Family Service Communities are truly places where people come -- not to wait out their declining years -- but where people come to live.”
Family Service Communities are committed to building welcoming, supportive communities for the young-at-heart, rooted in a strong commitment to the independence, safety, health and happiness of the residents. To learn more, or to visit The Northfield in Perinton, call 377-1810.

NEW STRATEGIC DIRECTION RESULTS IN RESIDENT SATISFACTION AT AN ALL-TIME HIGH!! |
When Family Service of Rochester (FSR) transferred some of its programs to Catholic Family Center in 2005, many in the community thought we had merged with them. In fact, we are still operating as a completely independent 501(c)3 not-for-profit, as we have since 1911.
As a result of our strategic restructuring, we have transformed from an organization that did many things well to doing one thing very well, namely providing State-licensed Enriched Housing services for the "young at heart." (The term "older adults" just doesn't adequately describe those we serve who are living life to its fullest every day.) |
