NEW STRATEGIC DIRECTION RESULTS IN
RESIDENT SATISFACTION AT AN ALL-TIME HIGH!!
When Family Service of Rochester (FSR) transferred some of its programs to Catholic Family Center in 2005, many in the community thought we had merged with them. In fact, we are still operating as a completely independent 501(c)3 not-for-profit, as we have since 1911.
As a result of our strategic restructuring, we have transformed from an organization that did many things well to doing one thing very well, namely providing State-licensed Enriched Housing services for the “young at heart.” (The term “older adults” just doesn't adequately describe those we serve who are living life to its fullest every day.)
FSR provides Enriched Housing services at four locations. Our three city sites at Danforth Towers, Jonathan Child Apartments, and Hudson Ridge Apartments average 30 apartments at each location and our newest Northfield location in Fairport has 69 one and two-bedroom apartments.
FSR's Enriched Housing program provides all of the following for all residents:
- One or two bedroom apartments (some efficiency apartments at Danforth Towers - no shared rooms)
- Three meals each day
- Housekeeping & laundry
- Scheduled transportation
- Personal care
- Social and recreational activities
- Financial management
- Case management
Our Northfield location also provides assistance with medication, on-site nursing available 24 hours per day, discounted cable service, and a hair salon. There are no buy-in or endowment fees or additional charges for any of these services, except for premium cable channels and hair salon services.
At FSR, we strive to enable those we serve to live independent, safe, healthy and joyful lives. To check our progress in meeting this mission, we recently conducted a satisfaction survey among our residents, and we were very pleased with the results. Satisfaction rates improved in every category (including food service, housekeeping, laundry, and recreational activities) and stand at an all-time high.
FSR currently operates with a $3.2 million operating budget with a staff of eighty. We are a model of efficiency with an overhead rate of only 10.7%, and we save the taxpayer hundreds of thousands of dollars each year by enabling those we serve to continue to live independently and avoid far more expensive home care or nursing home care.
The quality of the staff is perhaps the most crucial ingredient in helping our residents to be independent, safe, healthy and happy. That's why our residents' feedback about our staff was most gratifying.
- 95% of our residents reported that our staff are cooperative and work well together (100% at our Northfield and Jonathan Child locations!)
- 94% agreed that our staff were friendly (100% at our Northfield and Jonathan Child locations!)
- 93% noted that all of our staff were considerate and attentive (100% at the Northfield!)
We salute our staff, whose work honors those we serve every day.
We also gratefully acknowledge the collaborative relationships we have forged with other organizations. Our city locations serve low-income residents in partnership with the Rochester Housing Authority and generous support from United Way. Our Northfield location is able to operate well below the average cost of market rate Enriched Housing facilities through our partnership with the Fairport Baptist Home Caring Ministries. They donated the land for the project, and provide food, laundry and maintenance services under contract.
